The Trelino Evo is a simple, but well-built portable plastic toilet with different containers for liquid and solid waste.
Urine goes into its container while poop falls into a lined container with an absorbent material such as sawdust, coco coir, peat, or suitable litter.
Therefore, it’s not actually a composting toilet, it only makes odour control and waste disposal easy.
It doesn’t need plumbing work, pipes, or tanks to install it, and you don’t need water or chemicals to refine your waste.
Trelino Evo has a Good Design
This portable toilet looks basic for the price, but it’s pretty good for campers, van lifers, boat owners, etc.
It comes in 3 sizes: small, medium and large, sharing the same width and depth, but varying height.
They are 13 inches wide, 15.4 inches deep, while the S, M, and L sizes measure 11.7 inches, 14.2 inches, and 16.9 inches respectively.
On the other hand, the small, medium, and large sizes weigh roughly 3.9 kg, 4.3 kg, and 4.9 kg respectively.
Even the large size is not heavy, making it easy to carry.
The design also supports good hygiene.
The solid-waste container has its own tight-fitting lid for transport, while the urine container can be sealed separately.
The lid closes softly, carrying handles are built into the sides, and the internal containers sit securely in the base.
Your wastes are secure without leaking even when the containers are full, and you’re driving with the bucket in your car.
Good Odour Control
This is another selling point of Evo. The toilet is easy to clean, and even when there’s poop in the container, it doesn’t produce odour, thanks to wood shavings and baking soda as well.
In warm temperatures, there’s a tendency for it to smell, so make sure the containers are covered properly, and there’s good ventilation to reduce the chance of any noticeable smell.
Of course, also maintain good hygiene and clean the toilet regularly after use.
It’s better than Cassette Toilet
You don’t need flushing or any chemicals to break down the waste, or a dump-station routine.
After defecating, you simply add enough absorbent material to cover the excreta. When it’s full, you tie off the bag and dispose of it according to your district’s waste disposal regulations.
Also, since liquid waste is separated from solid waste, it makes it easier to handle solid waste. You’re not opening a tank full of mixed sewage.
You have to Position Yourself Correctly
It’s fine that it has 2 containers to separate liquid and solid waste, but if you don’t position yourself correctly while you poop, urine and solids can occasionally end up in the wrong area.
Also, this can become a challenge if you don’t choose the correct size for your body.
The Seat is Comfortable
The Trelino Evo bucket toilet is designed for comfort. The seat is contoured rather than being a flat camping-toilet surface, and the medium and large sizes provide a more conventional sitting height.
The smaller Evo S is obviously more compact, so there’s a trade-off between portability and room.
The seat is comfortable but noted that it could feel small for larger users. This is the reason I said it’s important to get the size that fits you.
Choosing the right size matters more than the specification sheet suggests.
If space is your overriding concern, the S makes sense. If you’re living with it full-time, I’d seriously consider moving up a size.
Is the Trelino Evo Worth the Price?
On most online stores, the medium size costs about $475 while the large size is around $600, so if you’re an occasional camper, it could be pricey.
You might prefer to use campground bathrooms, but if you regularly travel off-grid and need a dependable private bathroom, then it’s worth the price.
For full-time van life, tiny homes, boats, overlanding, or situations where you don’t want a black tank, it makes more sense.
You’re paying for a combination of comfort, portability, odour containment, simple waste separation, easy cleaning, and freedom from plumbing.
Its Drawbacks
Some users don’t find the urine container easy to empty, probably because of the shape, and maybe a spout could make it better.
All the versions of the toilet should have a built-in full indicator so you don’t have to check periodically if it’s full, though it has an accessory designed for that which can be bought as an add-on.
I also think there should be an extra liquid waste container or users should be able to buy an additional one so one can be cleaned while the other is in use.
